Offbeat Things to Do in San Sebastian to Add More Worth to Your Trip

Recently gaining attention and popularity, San Sebastian has been kept a secret for a really long time. It may be one of the reasons that the city still holds the old-world charm along with modern-day attractions for tourists coming over. Though the city is a part of Spain and sits in the northern part of the country, it follows its own rules and is a small world on its own.

You will be surprised to know that San Sebastian is locally known as the Basque Country and has its own distinctive language with no similarity to others. Despite being an island town, there are plenty of offbeat experiences to include in your San Sebastain guide.

Attend a Play at Teatro Principal

Perhaps no guide will tell you, but attending a play at the Teatro Principal is an experience in itself. The theatre was first opened to the public in 1843 and is one of the oldest in the town. Throughout the year, the theatre hosts films, plays, and performing arts in the Basque and Spanish languages. The interior still gives old-world charm, and the décor has been kept intact, and the typical 19th-century balconies add more beauty to it.

Try Pintxos

Pintxos is synonymous with San Sebastian and is its own version of what Tapas is to the rest of Spain. It is one of the core parts of Basque cuisine, and almost all restaurants and cafes you will step into will offer this. Consider having these at some random bar or café to have the most authentic taste, and you will be in awe of the flavour exploding in your mouth.

Learn About the Basque Culture

Even as a part of Spain, San Sebastian follows a different culture. As a Basque country, you will feel Basque culture dominating every corner of the town, and they have different etiquette and even an entirely different Basque language. If you are visiting the town, thinking your little knowledge of Spanish will work, then you are wrong.

San Sebastian is indeed a town of wonders, and a trip here is like visiting a dream city where calmness dominates. You will get ample experiences, but the ones discussed here are a must if you don’t follow the path of the commonly done.
